Investor Guide to RWA Secondary Trading
A practical guide for investors evaluating RWA platforms.
Evaluating RWA Secondary Trading Platforms
Before investing through a secondary trading platform, consider factors like regulatory compliance, asset quality, fees, custody solutions, and historical trading volume.
Key Questions to Ask
- Is the platform registered with relevant financial regulators in your jurisdiction?
- What types of assets are listed and what is the quality of underlying assets?
- How does the platform handle KYC, AML, and investor accreditation?
- What are the full fee structures including listing, trading, and custody fees?
- How is custody handled — custodial, self-custody, or third-party?
- What is the historical trading volume and how many active buyers are on the platform?
- What are the transfer restrictions and lock-up periods for listed assets?
- How does the settlement process work and how long does it take?
Understanding Risk
Tokenized real-world assets carry the same underlying risks as non-tokenized versions of those assets, plus additional technology risk, regulatory risk, and platform risk. Blockchain rails do not eliminate counterparty risk or asset-level risk. Always review the offering documents, risk disclosures, and terms before investing.
Accreditation Requirements
Most RWA secondary trading platforms require investors to be accredited, verified, or otherwise qualified under applicable securities laws. Requirements vary by jurisdiction. Work with a qualified financial or legal advisor to understand your eligibility and obligations.
